Check the module is actually at fault

Engine computers rarely fail on their own. A shorted sensor, resistance in the module ground circuit, or a weak battery will all imitate a dead PCM, and fitting a replacement without finding the original cause can damage the new unit too. Internal fault codes in the P0601 to P0606 range, or a complete loss of communication with a scan tool, are the clearest evidence the module itself has failed.

Fitting it

Disconnect the negative battery cable, allow about ten minutes for a full reset, swap the module, reconnect the battery and start the vehicle. No further programming is needed.
