What the BCM controls

Unlike the engine computer, the body control module runs the electrical systems around the cabin: interior and exterior lighting, power locks and windows, wipers, the horn and chimes, and on these vehicles the anti-theft system and remote keyless entry. It also monitors things like brake fluid level and door ajar switches.

Symptoms that point to the BCM

A failing BCM produces faults that look unrelated to one another, which is what makes it hard to diagnose. Common signs are lights behaving oddly or staying on, power locks cycling by themselves, wipers running when they should not, chimes sounding for no reason, remote keys no longer working, or the vehicle refusing to start because the immobiliser will not authorise it.
